Niowave Recovers Radium

In a remarkable display of international collaboration and scientific progress, Niowave, Inc.’s Dr. William Peters’ recent trip to Fiji represents a significant milestone in global health and safety. The mission to recover Radium-226 sources, once used in medical treatments, underscores the importance of responsible management of radioactive materials.

The successful operation, conducted in partnership with Dr. Juan Carlos Benitez-Navarro of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the Fiji Ministry of Health & Medical Services, not only ensures the safe removal and recycling of these materials but also highlights the advancements in our ability to handle legacy radioactive sources. This initiative is a testament to the dedication of experts like Dr. Peters and the IAEA in safeguarding our environment and health. “Although this effort presented significant logistical challenges, our lengthy experience with safe handling of radioactive material and cooperation with the IAEA ensured our success in mitigating this potential environmental liability, with the added benefit of providing source material for radioisotopes to be used in groundbreaking cancer treatment research and pharmaceutical development” said Dr. Peters. The radium sources will be shipped back to Niowave’s primary base of operations in Lansing, Michigan where the material will be used to make Actinium-225 via Niowave’s specialized superconducting electron linear accelerator technology.
